LFW was firstly organised in 1984 by the London Development Agency (LDA) with the support of the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Skills (DBI&S).

LFW is viewed as a business event that attracts a lot of media attention and gives a lot of value to taxpayers, according to funders. There will be around 5,000 members of the press and buyers in attendance, with over £100 million in orders expected.

The first LFW was located in a West London car park, with tents erected outside of Kensington’s Commonwealth Institute. Some of the upcoming designers of that era that started their career by participating in LFW were Betty Jackson, David Fielden and the John Galliano, whose French Revolution-inspired degree collection caused a flurry of excitement.

Moreover, LFW is considered as a big contributor to London’s economy and in 2017, it directly paid £32.3 billion ($41.66 billion) to the UK’s GDP, which means it’s almost as big as the financial sector. London also broke new ground in 2018 when it became the first major fashion week to go fur-free.

Lets get in!

On February of 2022, London Fashion Week sponsored by Clearpay took place in London with more than 300 different shows around London. However, how can a fashion-lover enter in one of London Fashion Week’s events? Is it possible for everyone to live this glamorous experience?

Unfortunately, the only way to enter in LFW events is by having a direct invitation from the fashion designer of each catwalk or win an invitation in one of the draws that LFW organisers are doing.

However, if you are a student and your passionate about fashion or you just really want to go to LFW, there is a way to “sneak in” it.

1st Way: UK Universities

A simple way to enter inside the LFW is by joining the designing or fashion society of your university. More specifically, the British council is providing plenty of invitations to university’s societies as well as many opportunities to students that the want to work in the fashion sector in their future. Also, London fashion college, one of the biggest fashion schools in Europe, every year is organising competitions which enable student to show their designing skills by creating their own clothing line. The reward of these competitions is the opportunity to launch their campaign in one of the LFW events.

2nd Way: Applying for part-time job in LFW

As it is previously mentioned, LFW is one of the biggest fashion events in the UK by having more than 250 shows take place in a 2-weeks period. However, in order for all the shows to be well organised, the organisers of LFW are employing a plethora of people for working part-time and helping the designers, the models as well as the visitors with all of their queries. It is really easy for everyone who is interested to find a job on LFW as they need a lot of people to work on these events. Lastly, one of the most significant “special benefit” of the people who are working for LFW is that except from the money that they will receive, they have access to the backstage of LFW as well as one some catwalks for free. Moreover, the LFW “workers” could meet their favourite celebrities and top-models as they will attend the LFW shows.
